Pemanfaatan Pelepah Aren Sebagai Bahan Baku Arang Aktif Menggunakan Aktivasi Secara Fisika
The aim of this research was to obtain the physical activation time for the characteristics of activated charcoal from palm fronds in accordance with Indonesian National Standard No. 06-3730-1995. The research was carried out experimentally using a completely randomized design (CRD) consisting of five treatments and three replications. The treatment in this study ware physical activation with an activation time of A1 activation time is 1 hours, A2 activation time is 2 hours, A3 activation time is 3 hours, A4 activation time is 4 hours and A5 activation time is 5hours. Theobservation dataobtained wereanalyzedstatistically using variance (ANOVA) and followed by Duncan's Multiple Range Test (DMRT) at the 5% level. The results of the activation time test showed that the differences had a significant effect on water content, ash content, fixed carbon content, volatile matter content and iodine absorption. The best treatment in this research was activated charcoal from palm fronds with A5 of activation resulting in a value with an active charcoal yield of 77.75%, moisture content of 2.52%, ash content of 4.59%, volatile matter content of 13.53%, bound carbon content of 79.30% and Iodine absorption capacity of 972.90 mg/g.
