Prarancangan Pabrik Etilen Glikol Menggunakan Proses Hidrasi Non Katalitik Dengan Desain Alat Utama Kolom Distilasi Etilen Glikol (D-101)
Ethylene glycol (C2H6O2) is a colorless and odorless liquid, relatively volatile with low viscosity. Ethylene glycol is used mainly as an antifreeze in automobile radiators and as a raw material for the manufacture of polyester fibers, in addition to that as an auxiliary material in the latex industry and a coolant in compressors. The process of making ethylene glycol is carried out by reacting ethylene oxide in the liquid and water phases in a continuous stirred-tank reactor (CSTR). The reaction takes place in isothermal adiabatis. This factory will be established in the Cilegon area, Banten with a capacity of 500,000 tons/year. The operation of the factory runs 24 hours/day for 330 days each year, and the work system of shift and non-shift employees is based on the division of working hours. Based on the results of the economic feasibility analysis of the factory, this isopropyl alcohol factory is feasible to establish with a PBP value of 1.3334 years, an IRR of 22.7747%, an ROI of 61.14%, and a BEP of 42.68%.
Keywords: ethylene glycol, adiabatis isothermal, continuous stirred-tank reactor.
