ABSTRACT


The coastal area of Riau Province borders the Strait of Malacca and consists of small islands, one of which is Rupat Island with an area of approximately 1.500 km. One of the water resource problems on Rupat Island is the decline in groundwater levels due to the construction of canals by the community which can trigger seawater intrusion, because when groundwater decreases the hydrostatic pressure below the ground surface decreases so that salt water from the sea seeps into the aquifer. This can disrupt groundwater quality and threaten the availability of clean water. Therefore, water resource management planning is needed, particularly regarding water utilization zones. Water utilization zones are determined based on the spatial distribution of infiltration areas and water catchment areas. Specifically for infiltration areas, the determining parameters include rainfall, land slope, land use, and soil type. These four parameters must undergo weighting (scoring) and map overlay in accordance with Regulation of the Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Number 10 of 2015 and the Minister of Environment and Forestry Number 10 of 2022. The spatial classification approach from the overlay results is conducted using the Sturges interval method. The spatial analysis results of the infiltration areas on Rupat Island can be described as follows: based on the Regulation of the Minister of Public Works and Public Housing it shows a beginning to be critical 0,01 km² (0,001%), naturally normal 1000,70 km² (65,636%), and good 523,90 km² (34,363%). Whereas based on the Minister of Environment and Forestry it shows a beginning to be critical 89,42 km² (5,865%), naturally normal 1090,08 km² (71,499%), and good 345,11 km² (22,636%).
