PENGARUH UMUR SLUDGE TERHADAP DERAJAT PENGENDAPAN LIMBAH CAIR PULP DAN KERTAS
Biological wastewater treatment processes using suspended systems have been
widely used. The most common and widely used wastewater treatment system is the
Activated Sludge Process. Sludge age, which isthe length of time sludge settles and
accumulates in waste processing plants, is an important factor in the waste
management process. Sludge settling ability can be determined by determining the
Sludge Volume Index (SVI). SVI (Sludge Volume Index) is an important parameter
in the active sludge deposition process. This research aims to determine the effect
of sludge age on the degree of deposition of liquid pulp and paper waste. The
method used in this research is collecting primary data. The results obtained in this
research are the effect of time on settling, where the longer the time, the better the
settling in 120 minutes with a settling result of around 400-500 mL. The type of
liquid waste also influences settling, namely rayon waste hasthe lowest mud density
and pulp & paper waste has the highest mud density. Meanwhile, BCTMP
(Bleached Chemi-ThermoMechanical Pulp) waste has a lower density than pulp &
paper. Apart from that, the age of the sludge also influences settling, that is, the
longerthe age of the sludge, the fasterit willsettle and the higherthe sludge density.
Turbidity influences SVI, namely that the deposition process is good or suitable for
discharge into the river.
