Pengaruh Ekstrak Buah Seri (Muntingia calabura) Terhadap Kadar Trigliserida Pada Tikus Wistar Dengan Diet Tinggi Lemak
Hypertriglyceridemia is a medical condition characterized by abnormaly high levels of triglyceride in the blood. It is often associated with other medical condition like obesity, metabolic syndrome, diabetes and can be influenced by high-fat diet. Several studies have stated that the fruit of Muntingia calabura contains compounds like flavonoids, saponins, and polifenol which have the potential to reduce blood lipids. This study aims to determine the effect of Muntingia calabura fruit ethanol extract on the triglyceride levels of male Rattus norvegicus rats, Wistar strain induced by a high-fat diet. This research is an experimental study using a post-test only with control group design. There were 15 rats divided into 3 treatment groups, namely the standard group, the group given a high-fat diet, and the group given a high-fat diet and Muntingia calabura fruit ethanol extract of 100 mg/kg body weight. The study was conducted for 10 weeks with 2 weeks for acclimating the experimented animals and 8 weeks of daily treatment. Blood samples were collected from the rat’s heart post-termination and examined using spectrophotometry with the quantitative enzymatic-colorimetric method. The data is non-parametric and was analyzed using Kruskal-Wallis and Dunn’s test with unadjusted p-value as pairwise comparison. The data analysis results indicated that rats treated with ethanol extract of Muntingia calabura fruit showed a significant reduction in blood triglyceride levels (p < 0.05) compared to the high-fat diet group. This study concludes that Muntingia calabura frui ethanol extract can lower triglyceride levels in rats induced by high fat diet.
