The Effect Of Podcast On Listening Ability Of The Tenth Grade Students At Man 1 Kuantan Singingi
This study explores the effect of podcasts on the listening ability of first-grade students at MAN 1 Kuantan Singingi. The research addresses challenges students face, such as difficulty distinguishing English phonemes, understanding stress and intonation, and predicting content. Using a one-group pretest-posttest design, 29 students participated in the study. A pretest assessed their initial listening ability, followed by a treatment phase where podcasts were used in the learning process, and a posttest measured improvements. The results showed significant improvements in students’ listening skills, with the average pretest score rising from 56.04 to 89.67 in the posttest. The N-Gain score of 0.79 indicates a high effectiveness of podcasts in enhancing listening comprehension. Podcasts provided students with authentic listening experiences, helping them understand natural speech, varying accents, and contextual clues. This study concludes that podcasts are an effective tool for improving students’ listening skills and recommends their integration into English teaching practices to foster more engaging and interactive learning environments.
