Efek Pemberian Ekstrak Etanol Daun Mangga (Mangifera Indica L.) Terhadap Gambaran Mikroskopis Hati Tikus Putih (Rattus Norvegicus B.) Galur Wistar

Nindya Zafirah / 2003135005 - Nama Orang;

Mango leaves (Mangifera indica L.) contain antioxidants such as flavonoids, polyphenols, tannins, triterpenoids, and quinones, which possess hepatoprotective activity. Antioxidant compounds can prevent, repair, or inhibit free radicals that may damage liver cells. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of ethanol extract of mango leaves on the microscopic structure of the liver in white rats, specifically focusing on histological damage such as parenchymal degeneration, hydropic degeneration, fatty degeneration, and necrosis. The treatments include P0 (control), P1 (0.02 mL), P2 (0.04 mL), and P3 (0.08 mL). The ethanol extract of mango leaves was administered orally for 7 days. Data were analyzed descriptively, and differences in histological structures were assessed using specific formulas. The results concluded that administering ethanol extract of mango leaves for 7 days in white rats tended to have no notable effect on the microscopic structure of the liver. The average percentage of normal hepatocytes in the treatment groups showed a slight decrease compared to the control group, but the condition remained normal. Additionally, histological liver damage, including parenchymal degeneration, hydropic degeneration, fatty degeneration, and necrosis, exhibited minor variations across the groups. Therefore, short-term administration of ethanol extract of mango leaves has not demonstrated optimal effects in protecting or improving liver histological conditions.

Key finding: Mango leaves, ethanol extract, microscopic liver, white rat.
