Ananalysis Of Ma Diniyah Puteri Pekanbaru Students’ Difficulties In Reading Comprehension Of Descriptive Text
The research aimed to analyze the difficulties in reading comprehension that were faced by tenth grade students at MA Diniyah Puteri Pekanbaru and the factors that cause the students’ difficulties in reading comprehension of descriptive texts. The research was conducted a mixed-methods approach with a sequential explanatory design to collect data. A reading test is for collecting quantitative data and an interview is for collecting qualitative data. The research applied the total sampling technique to 30 students. The result of this research showed that determining the main idea (61%), understanding vocabulary (56%), locating references (44%), making inferences (57%), and finding detail information (47%) which determining the main idea have the highest difficulty with a percentage of 61%. Then, the result of the interview found three internal factors and one external factor that cause of students’ difficulties in reading comprehension. For internal factors are difficulty in understanding long sentences, difficulty in using reading strategy, and difficulty in concentration. While, for external factor is house environment. The research suggests that the students are expected to practice reading descriptive texts regularly and focus for determining the main idea as well as expand their vocabulary through English books, dictionary, and application to learn English.
