Efektivitas Ekstrak Daun Salam (Eugenia Polyantha L) Sebagai Inhibitor Terhadap Laju Korosi Baja St 37 Pada Media Air Gambut
ABSTRACT
This research aims to analyze the corrosion rate and the efficiency of bay leaf (Eugenia Polyantha L) extract as an inhibitor at concentrations of 0%, 3%, 6%, and 9% on ST-37 steel in a peat water medium. The bay leaf extract was prepared using a maceration method, and the solvent was separated using a rotary evaporator. ST-37 steel specimens, measuring 10 mm × 10 mm × 3 mm, were immersed in the peat water medium with and without the addition of the inhibitor, suspended inside a container. The inhibitors were applied at concentrations of 3%, 6%, and 9%, and the immersion period was set to 28 days. The corrosion rate was measured based on weight loss before and after testing. The results showed that the addition of the inhibitor significantly reduced the corrosion rate; specifically, the 9% concentration of bay leaf extract achieved an efficiency of 38.83%, with a corrosion rate of 1.66 mpy. Visual analysis indicated that the surface of the steel treated with the extract experienced minimal damage. These findings suggest that bay leaf extract has potential as an effective natural material for corrosion control in peat water environments.
