A Study On The Ability Of The Fifth Semester Studentsofthe English Study Program Of Fkip Riau Universityin Pronouncing Words In Minimal Pairs

Thisresearch is aimed to describe the ability of the fifth semester students of English Study program of FKIP Riau University in pronouncing words in minimal pairs. The participants were 27 students who at the time of the research was during the 2013/2014 academic year.The data were collected by usingspeakingtests, comprised of 40 questions on minimal pairs.The data were assesed by three raters. The three raters gave the scores according to the sounds that the students made.The research finding showed that the ability of the students in fifth semester were in good level. The average score that can be reached by the fifth semester students of FKIP UNRI in pronouncing words in minimal pairs especially in vowel and consonant sounds is 74,6.
