This study aims to determine the application of cultivation of oil palm plantations for environmentally sustainable performed by independent smallholders. In assessing the application of sustainable plantation cultivation some information related to plantation cultivation and application of oil palm cultivation is done by independent smallholders based on RSPO principles 4 and 5. The methodology in this research used is a method of exploration to the collection of primary data and secondary data. The author uses key informants and informants as research subject to answer questions relating to the smallholders. The results showed that independent smallholders implement sustainable oil palm practice and can produce sustainable oil palm production. Principles 4 and 5 of RSPO can be used as a standard in an effort to assess cultivation practices environmentally sustainable plantations. By implementing the RSPO standards, farmers can get the advantage from after applying the RSPO both in terms of environmental, social and economic.
