Pemanfaatan Limbah Pelepah Kelapa Sawit (Elaeis Guinensis Jacq.) Sebagai Biosorben Ion Timbal (II) Dan Kadmium (II) Dalam Larutan Berair
Oil palm fronds are waste whose utilization is still not optimal. The oil palm fronds contain cellulose, lignin, hemicellulose, extractive substances, silica and ash. The component of oil palm fronds makes it can be converted into biosorbents. The purpose of this study was to characterize activated palm frond powder with variation of concentrations H2SO4 and determined the ability of adsorption of lead and cadmium ions on activated or inactivated powders. In this study the variations in activator concentrations used were 0 M, 1 M and 2 M. The best H2SO4 concentration as activator agent of oil palm frond powder is H2SO4 1 M with amount of water is 3.34%, ashes 0.58%, iodine adsorpt 998.85 mg/g, methylene blue adsorpt 11.96 mg/g and surface area of 44.36 m2/g. Functional group in powder was characterized by FTIR. The concentration of lead and cadmium ions in activated and un-activated solutions was determined by ICP (Inductively Coupled Plasma). The powder H2SO4 activation was have lead and cadmium metal adsorp higher than powder inactivated with efficiency adsorp respectively 99.9279% and 99.145%.
