This research was conducted from July 2016 through October 2016 on the Urban Forests of Pekanbaru, Riau, Indonesia. The goals of this research are to describe the locations of the urban forests that are in the city of Pekanbaru, to analyze the area of urban forests required based on its ability and capacity for CO2 absorption and the need and capacity to provide O2 and water for its inhabitants, and to analyze the need for Urban Forests based on its social and economic aspects in the city of Pekanbaru. The results of this research conclude that Urban Forests are located in AlamMayang Recreation Park in the District of Tenayan Raya, Panam Bina Widya Universitas Riau (UNRI) Campus in the District of Tampan, the Air Force Base of Pekanbaru in the District of Marpoyan Damai, the area of the Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Suska Riau in the District of Tampan and UNILAK Campus in the District of Rumbai. The Urban Forest area required by the 2016 all area of the city of Pekanbaru based on the Urban Forest’s ability to absorb CO2 is 3,246 Ha (the current 63,226 Ha = 5.42% of the needed Urban Forest area), the Urban Forest area needed for O2 is 3,376 Ha (the current 63,226 Ha = 5.34% of the needed Urban Forest area), and Urban Forest area needed for water is 7,360 Ha (the current 63,226 Ha = 11.64% of the needed Urban Forest area). The best approach in calculating the need for Urban Forests is based on water need. The distribution of water is uneven among the districts of the city of Pekanbaru.
