Analisis Sifat Fisik Tanah Gambut Pada Kegiatan Penyaradanan Menggunakan Traktor Dan Sampan Darat (Studi Kasus Pada Iuphhk-Ht Pt. Arara Abadi Distrik Tapung)
Peat swamp forest is an important natural resource. Peat swamp may be utilized to produce biomass such as oil palm plantation, rubber plantation and industrial timber estate. Thus, sustainable management of peat swamp area is the key in gaining the balancing benefit economically, socially and ecologically, especially in the management of industrial timber estate. Peat swamp has been known for its fragile ecosystem, thus improper management could lead to the unsustainable condition of soil and its forest. This study conducted at industrial timber estate of IUPHHK-HT PT. Arara Abadi in Tapung District. The study determined that the use of tractors and terrestrial canoe may resulted on increased bulk and particle density, decreased total pores those will increase water holding capacity and decrease the soil permeability. The use of leaves litter in skidding activity may reduce soil evaporation especially in dry season. The increase of bulk density value on soil compaction gave the positive impact on the soil capability in griping the plants, decreasing inclined effect and lessen the falling trees those all may reducing economic loss. The decreasing of soil permeability and the increasing of water holding capacity will ensure the optimum water availability, which will decrease peat swamp dryness and directly will decrease the peat swamp forest fire.
