Stuck In Indonesia (Studi Adaptasi Sosial Pengungsi Afghanistan Di Kota Pekanbaru)
This study aims to look at the social adaptation in the fields of Education, Health and Work carried out by Afghan refugees when they are in their placement at the Satria Hotel, Pekanbaru City District, Pekanbaru City. Refugees are a vulnerable and disadvantaged group, and they will face uncertain situations in many of the locations where they live. Basic needs are the most important things that are very difficult to access, especially in transit countries like Indonesia. Refugees fled their home country by migrating due to many dire situations such as war, persecution, climate change, economic devastation, political instability, etc. Migration is an important thing for humans, this is also linked to the Sustainable Development Goals indicator which says that "no one is left behind". Especially in Pekanbaru City, the Afghan refugees have been living since 2013 until now and they still do not have a policy from the local government regarding the Task Force which manages basic services such as Education, Health and Work while in the Pekanbaru City area.
In relation to these conditions, this research focuses on why refugees leave their home countries and how they adapt to limited access to these basic services, while the refugees stay in Pekanbaru City. This study used qualitative methods and researchers conducted several interviews for refugees, hotel management, representatives of international organizations and representatives of Pekanbaru City government. The data were analyzed using triangulation techniques or cross-checking with information data collected as well as from interviews with various sources who worked to deal with refugees while in Pekanbaru City. The results showed that Afghan refugees were able to adapt to the limitations of basic services by finding alternative solutions or utilizing assistance from various international organizations. This proves that the Afghan refugees who are at Hotel Satria can adapt to the limitations of these basic services while living in Pekanbaru City. Although in the end refugees will always hope for a better policy from the government or related parties.
