Indonesia as an agricultural country, most of its people have livelihoods as farmers, the large number of national products from agricultural products proves that the agricultural sector has an important role. The development of the agricultural sector, especially food crops, is closely related to the country's food security. Rice produced from paddy is classified as a secondary crop and is the staple food for Indonesians. Rice is a type of seasonal crop, which can be planted during certain seasons. Kuala Kampar sub-district, Pelalawan Regency, is mostly an agricultural area and is one of the rice-producing areas. This study aims to determine the strategies of the rice farmworkers in dealing with the socio-economic conditions of their families, in which the income from farm laborers is not sufficient to meet their daily needs. This is because the farm workers do not have their own land, they only work on other people's land with a sharing system at harvest time. In dealing with this condition, farm workers have their own strategies according to their situation and family capacity. This type of research is conducted using qualitative methods with a descriptive approach. The required data is collected through observation, in-depth interviews and documentation. The results of research in the field show that seasonal farmers are able to do various ways to adapt to all the conditions they face. Rice, which is the staple food of farmer families, is the main commodity crop grown by farmers. Rice is a type of plant that cannot always be planted freely. This is related to the current season, because only in certain seasons can it be planted. Therefore, farmers must be able to carry out adaptation strategies for the survival of their lives and their families. The absence of land owned by seasonal farmers, so renting land is one way for farmers to maintain their livelihoods. Farming is a major skill for farmers, so farmers are doing other types of crops as a side crop to increase their income. Having a side job is also done by a seasonal farmer as one of the adaptation strategies he does and takes advantage of his social network. The involvement of the farm laborer's family cannot be eliminated, so that the involvement of the family is carried out as an effort to maintain the survival of their family, which will be sufficient to help farmers in implementing adaptation strategies.
