Analisis Pesan Moral Gurindam 12 Karya Raja Ali Haji

Riau Province, with its Malay community characteristics, has literary works
that are widely known by the Riau people themselves. For example, one of the
Malay literary works that is widely known by the people of Riau is Gurindam 12.
Gurindam 12 is the work of a national hero and famous writer from Penyengat
Island, Raja Ali Haji. Gurindam 12 was written and completed on Penyengat
Island in 1847. Gurindam 12 contains good advice and messages consisting of 12
chapters. Although Gurindam 12 is well-known among the people of Riau, not
many people know the moral message that Raja Ali Haji conveyed in every
chapter of Gurindam 12. Because there are figures of speech and metaphors that
are not easily understood by the public. Also, it has Sufism terms which become
the identity of old Malay literary works. This study aims to determine how the
signifier and signified in each article of Gurindam 12 by Raja Ali Haji, and to find
out how the moral message contained in each article.This study used a qualitative
method with the semiotic theory of Ferdinand De Saussure to determine the
signifier and signified and to obtain a moral message of 12 article Gurindam 12.
The informants in this study were 2 people who were the research subjects, with
the determination of the informants using purposive technique. Meanwhile, the
moral message contained in each article of Gurindam 12 is the object of research.
The data collection techniques were carried out by literature study, interviews,
and documentation.Based on the results of the study, it was found that signifier
and signified in each of Raja Ali Haji's 12 gurindam articles in the form of
signifier are what is seen physically or real. The signifier in Raja Ali Haji's
Gurindam 12 are the original verses delivered by Raja Ali Haji. Signified in the
form of what is the meaning of the words or terms in each stanza. The moral
message that is obtained is in the form of taking care of the body parts such as the
heart, eyes, mouth, tongue, hands, feet, stomach, and genitals. Abstain from the
bad qualities that arise from the limbs, namely, speaking harshly, envious,
arrogant, cruel, stingy, arrogant, lazy, indignant, excessive, and not keeping
promises. Teaches a sense of nationalism. generate good deeds in oneself and
others in the form of guarding the disgrace of others, accepting criticism, critical
thinking, mutual respect, gratitude. Moral messages within the scope of the family
are in the form of filial piety to parents, providing education to children, and the
obligations of husbands to wives. Moral messages regarding faith and submission
to God Almighty, avoiding Satan's temptations and remembering the hereafter. As
well as, the moral message regarding the four pillars of Islam is prayer, fasting,
zakat, hajj.
