Penentuan Sifat Kristalinitas Dan Suseptibilitas Magnetik Oksida Besi Di-Doping Mangan

The crystallinity and magnetic susceptibility iron oxide of natural sand from Sungai
Suci beach at Pondok Kelapa District, Central Bengkulu Regency, Bengkulu
Province have been carried out. The beach sand that has been processed using Iron
Sand Separator (ISS) then the product was separated again between iron oxide and
non-iron oxide using Neodymium Iron Boron (NdFeB) magnet, the result is called
NdFeB product. The NdFeB product was milled for 120 hours using 26 milling balls
with a diameter of 1.5 cm, the result is called BM 1 product. The BM 1 product was
divided into 5 parts, then the five products were doped with manganese with a
concentration of 0 wt. %, 5 wt.%, 10 wt.%, 15.wt%, and 20 wt.% using ball milling
for 20 hours employing 26 milling balls with a diameter of 1.5 cm, the result is called
product BM 2 (BM 2 A, BM 2 B, BM 2 C, BM 2 D, and BM 2 E). The magnetic
induction of the solenoid (B0) and the total magnetic induction of the solenoid (BT)
were measured using the Pasco Magnetic Probe PS-216. The calculation of the
magnetic susceptibility value was carried out based on the values of B0 and BT. The
results showed that the susceptibility value increased with increasing manganese
concentration. The crystal size and magnetic particle size distribution of the BM 2
product were determined using X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and Particle Size Analyzer
(PSA). The results of XRD analysis of BM 2 products contain two magnetic phases,
namely magnetite (Fe3O4) which has a cubic structure and hematite (α-Fe2O3) has a
monoclinic structure. The crystallite size decreases with increasing manganese
concentration. Moreover, the results of PSA analysis for BM 2 products with
manganese concentration of 0 wt.% show agglomeration iron oxide nanoparticles,
while Manganese concentrations of 10 wt.% and 20 wt.% show decreased in
agglomeration.
