This research was conducted at the Islamic University of Riau, Bukit Raya
District, Pekanbaru City with the aim of knowing the reasons behind the
occurrence of online soccer gambling among Muslim students at the Islamic
University of Riau and to determine the impact of online soccer gambling
behavior on Muslim students at the University of Riau. Riau Islam. This research
uses descriptive qualitative research method. The subjects in this study amounted
to six students of the Islamic University of Riau. The data collection technique
used in this study is the snowball sampling technique, which is an approach to
find key informants who have a lot of information, and uses observation
techniques, interview techniques and documentation techniques. The results of
this study indicate that the reasons behind the occurrence of online soccer
gambling among Muslim students at the Islamic University of Riau are socioeconomic
factors, situational factors, the desire to try factor, the perception factor
of victory and the perception factor of skill. And why students play online soccer
gambling games because they are influenced by several things, namely being
influenced by friends, loose supervision from parents and technological advances.
And the impact of this online soccer gambling behavior is academic achievement
that continues to decline, making their personality bad and the impact on the
economy, namely their finances are misused or wasted playing online soccer
gambling.
