ABSTRACT
Telescopium telescopium is one of the biota that plays an important role in litter decomposition
and mineralization of organic matter to reduce suspended levels and bacterial populations, wastewater
from intensive shrimp farming effluents, and water pollution. The basic substrate consists of various
types, including: silt, sandy silt, sand, and rocky. The type of basic substrate also determines the number
and types of benthic organisms in a waters, the type of substrate is very important in the development of
benthic organism communities. The research was carried out in October–November 2021 in the
Mangrove Ecosystem of the Sungai Nyalo Village South Coastal, West Sumatera, Aims to determine
the characteristics of the sediment texture, abundance of mangrove snails (T. telescopium), and the
relationship between sediment particle size and mangrove snail population abundance. Habitat
parameters measured include physical and chemical parameters of marine waters. Determination of
stations using purposive sampling method. The sampling location was divided into 3 sampling points
which were considered to represent the research area, with 1 transect at each station. Snail sample was
collected using 3m x 3m plot est plot was consisted 9 subplot. The results showed that the type of
substrate varied at each station. The Mean Size value ranges from 3.58 to 2.05 with the classification of
Very fine sand dominating. The abundance of the mangrove snail population ranged from 1.78 to 14.89
ind/m2. The correlation between sediment particle size and mangrove snail population abundance was
related but not closely
