Uji Kualitas Pulp Dari Kotoran Gajah Dengan Lama Pemasakan Dalam Larutan Asam Asetat
ABSTRACT
Paper is one of the necessities for the Indonesian people, so this country has plans to become the largest pulp and paper producer in the world (Syafii, 2000). The risk of this grand plan is the existence of illegal practices in exploiting natural forests to meet the needs of raw materials from pulp and paper mills. This increasing need is not in accordance with the existing raw materials, so it is necessary to look for other alternative raw materials. Elephant dung is one of the raw materials that can be used as pulp. The purpose of this study was to determine the pulp quality of elephant dung. The pulping process in this study used the organosolv method with a non-factorial completely randomized design (CRD) experiment where there were 3 treatments and 3 replications. The stages of pulping consist of raw material preparation, cooking, filtering, washing and drying. Furthermore, pulp quality testing was carried out. The data obtained from this study were analyzed using the Analysis of variance (ANOVA). The results of quality testing showed that the yield test (yield) was 63.8-73.82%, lignin test was 12.73-13.95 and alpha cellulose was 85.19-86.46%.
