STUDY OF COMMUNICATION PHENOMENOLOGY OF TIKTOK USERS WHO HAVE EXPERIENCE FEAR OF MISSING OUT BEHAVIOR

TikTok users who experience fear of missing out behavior is a new phenomenon in the development of TikTok social media. TikTok is a social media that has news or information that goes viral all the time. Videos that are viral and have a large number of views will usually attract a lot of attention from other TikTok users, both as information and as a reference in making their own TikTok videos. TikTok users who experience Fear Of Missing Out behavior will participate in making videos similar to videos that have been crowded on TikTok with different goals, one of which is to get a large number of viewers. This study aims to determine the motives, and meaning of TikTok for TikTok users who experience the fear of missing out behavior.
This study uses a qualitative research method with a phenomenological approach. Subjects were selected using a purposive technique in the form of ten TikTok users who experienced fear of missing out behavior. To obtain data, the authors used data collection techniques, namely participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. This study uses qualitative research data analysis techniques according to the analysis of the Miles & Hubermen model. Activities in data analysis, namely Data Reduction, Data Collection and Conclusion Drawing / Verification.
The results show that the utilization and use of TikTok for TikTok users who experience fear of missing out behavior is influenced by 2 motives, firstly, past motives (because motives) which are classified as sociogenetic motives, in the form of curiosity motives, documentation motives and future motives (in order). to motive) which are classified as sociogenetic motives, namely curiosity motives, self-esteem motives, competence motives, there are also biological motives, namely eliminating boredom as well as improving the mood where a person needs rest activities. Meanwhile, the meaning of TikTok for TikTok users who experience fear of missing out behavior is as a medium of information, as a versatile and functional medium, and as a space for creativity.
