The media is a messenger with the ability to sway public opinion. Koran Tempo did this in the matter of developing a premium tourist destination for Komodo National Park. Koran Tempo published 4 covers related to the controversial project. This study uses the semiotic analysis of Charles Sanders Peirce. The purpose of this study is to find out how the Sign, Object, Interpretant and Representation of the rejection of the development of the Komodo National Park premium tourist destination on the cover of the Tempo newspaper in 2020-2021
This study uses research methods with a qualitative approach. The subject of this research is Tempo newspaper. The object of this research is the cover of Tempo newspaper editions of October 27, 2020, October 28, 2020, and August 4, 2021. This study uses data collection techniques such as documentation, interviews and literature study. Data analysis techniques by reducing data, presenting data and drawing conclusions. Then to achieve the validity of the research data, the authors use triangulation.
The results show that Sign is a cover similar to the Jurassic Park film cover, the red carpet that trucks pass on the back of the Komodo dragon and the Unesco memorial located at the gate. Objects are the pictures on the cover of the Tempo newspaper. These pictures relate to the rejection of the KNP premium tourism destination development project. Interpretant is the interpretation of the reader who sees the 3 covers of the Tempo newspaper so as to produce arguments related to the rejection of development in the Komodo dragon habitat. The representation is the first cover, through an adaptation of the Jurassic Park film cover as a reference and reference. The second cover, through the use of the red carpet, is an innuendo for the privileges given to the developer. The third cover, through the use of things related to the Jurassic Park film, such as the word Jurassic Park and a gate that is similar to the gate in the film. There is a no-entry warning poster which means that UNESCO wants the government to stop the construction.
