Pemanfaatan Terowongan Di Jalan Tol Seksi Kandis Utara - Duri Sebagai Koridor Gajah Sumatera (Elephas Maximus Sumatranus)
Trans Sumatera Toll Road that connect Pekanbaru - Dumai was inaugurated on 25 September 2020, this toll also equipped with the first six elephant underpass in Indonesia. Five of them have an important role for connecting a group of elephants that live at Balai Raja wildlife reserve with a group of elephants that live in population pouch at Giam Siak Kecil. This research aimed to find out the intensity of elephant movements that crossed on the elephant underpass in the toll road and observe the habitat condition around the underpass. This research was conducted in June - August 2021. Three GPS collars installed on one male elephant that lives at Balai Raja named Codet and another two installed on two female elephant that live at Giam Siak Kecil named Seruni and Rara. Three main underpass were chose according to the result of GPS collars digitation few months before. Based on GIS analysis of GPS collars data in October 2020 - August 2021 showed that the underpass at Km 69+154 crossed three times by Codet, underpass at Km 71+992 crossed two times by Seruni and her son named Rimba, meanwhile the underpass at Km 72+950 never been used. Vegetation analysis with square plot showed that oil palm plantation, rubber, and mixed agriculture were the main dominant plantations in every underpass.
