SUMMARY
Composites contain more than one material element with different characteristics. The composite material consists of two phases, namely the matrix and the filler. In this study, the composites were prepared using natural rubber SIR 20 as a matrix and activated charcoal of candlenut shells activated by 5% KOH and cast sand as filler which were applied to peat water in Rimbo Panjang. Composite preparation was carried out by varying the concentration of filler with the names of samples KA, KAP I, KAP II, KAP III, KP and control composites. The prepared composites were characterized by tensile tests, compression tests and density tests. The results of composite characterization showed that the highest tensile strength value for the KA composite was 0.4986 MPa, while the compressive strength value for the KP composite was 12.7853 MPa and the density test value for the KP composite was 0.9040 g mL-1. Analysis of color parameters, pH, TSS and TDS after filtering using composites showed optimum results, namely using KA composites which can reduce color intensity by 32.60%, increase pH in the range of 6.24 - 7.01, reduce TSS by 92.74% and TDS of 97.97%. This value is in accordance with PERMENKES No. 32 of 2017 and Government Regulation No. 22 Year 2021.
