SUMMARY
Composite is a material wich is produced from two or more constituent material to form a new materials. Composite materials prepared by mixing matrix and fillers. The composite material used in this study consists of SIR 20 natural rubber as a matrix with the addition of 5% avocado seed activated charcoal and cast sand as a filler. Composites are made with a variety of fillers, consist of : 100% of activated charcoal (KA), 100% cast sand (KP), 50% activated charcoal: 50% cast sand (KAP 1), 75% activated charcoal: 25% cast sand (KAP 2), 25% activated charcoal: 75% cast sand (KAP 3). The addition of 5% activated charcoal of avocado seeds as filler was able to increase the tensile strength value from 0.6106 Mpa to 0.9905 Mpa and the addition of 5% cast sand as filler was able to increase the compressive strength value from 11.333 Mpa to 21.667 Mpa. The composite in this study was applied as a filter for peat water in Rimbo Panjang Village. The best composite for filtering sample of peat water is KAP 1. KAP 1 composites were able to reduce the TSS value by 38.59% and TDS by 38.22% and increase the pH of peat water from 3.8 to 5.8. These results have met the water quality standards according to the PERMENKES RI No. 32 of 2017 and Government Regulation No. 22 of 2021. However, the decrease in color intensity by 37.90% does not meet water quality standards for sanitation hygiene.
