ABSTRACT Fish consumption every year will increase along with the increasing number of people. The need for fish is very high because fish contains a lot of protein which is good for the human body, this is a factor so that interest in fish consumption is very high. To obtain fish in sufficient quantities requires fishing gear that can exploit good and environmentally friendly fish resources. Some of the response tools used by local fishermen are almost the same as fishermen in general, using boats and nets as their fishing gear, there are no special tools used by fishermen in Alai Village, Meranti Regency. The sustainable potential of fishery resources consists of the potential of capture fisheries and aquaculture. Ongoing development in the fisheries sector and the potential for fish resources to be utilized. Ironically, this high and abundant potential is currently under threat for its sustainability, mainly due to overexploitation, and the lack of knowledge of local people who work as fishermen, regarding the selectivity of using fishing nets. This research was carried out from January to February 2021. The method used in this study is the method Experimental Fishing.
