Pilihan Rasional Petani Kelapa Di Desa Pengalihan Kecamatan Keritang Kabupaten Indragiri Hilir

Indragiri Hilir Regency is the largest coconut producing Regency in
Indonesia and most of its people work in the coconut sector as their main
livelihood. This study aims to determine how the rational choice of coconut
farmers and how their efforts to improve social status in Pengalihan Village,
Keritang District, Indragiri Hilir Regency.
The research method used is descriptive qualitative method. The results of
this study indicate that each coconut farmer has different abilities to achieve
goals caused by the resources, efforts and norms of farmers in increasing social
status in the community. Coleman's rational choice theory shows that individuals
make an action or a choice to fulfill a goal that he wants to achieve. The desired
goal can be achieved by using the resources he has and maximizing the use of
these resources. There are two key elements in Coleman's rational choice theory,
namely actors and resources.
