Adsorpsi Gas Co Pada Gas Buang Sepeda Motor Menggunakan Biochar Dari Kayu Pohon Karet
ABSTRACT Biochar is charcoal that has been compacted through an activation process, so it has better absorption properties. Biochar comes from an incomplete combustion process in limited or no oxygen conditions. This study aims to study the adsorption of CO gas in motorcycle exhaust using biochar from fruit shells. Activated carbon was prepared by carbonization process at a temperature of 500oC for 1 hour using 10% H3PO4 activator and sifting with afilter size of 100 mesh. The operating conditions of the adsorption process which were varied were the shape of the adsorbent, namely tubes and rounds. The biocharproduct was then tested using proximate analysis. The results of the proximate analysis showed that biochar had complied with SNI 06-3730-1995 with a moisturecontent value of 4%; ash content 7,1%; volatile matter 7 %; and fixed carbon 77,9%. The results showed that the highest removal of CO emissions on motorcycles occurred in the first test of 70,28% with a tube shape and a media length of 3 cm. The best adsorption capacity value occurred in the first test with an activated carbon media length of 3 cm, which was sebesar 98,789 mg/g. The results of this study concluded that biochar from rubber fruit shells meets quality standards and can be used as an alternative to absorb gas emissions from motorcycles.
