ABSTRACT
Industrial development in Indonesia, especially the chemical industry continues to increase. The need for raw materials and industrial supporting materials in Indonesia is still mostly imported from abroad. Dimethyl carbonate (DMC) is a compound that has versatile reactivity, one of the alternative additives that is considered capable of replacing conventional additives because dimethyl carbonate is more environmentally friendly than other additives and can reduce hydrocarbon emissions. The aim of the design of the dimethyl carbonate plant is to meet the demand for dimethyl carbonate in Indonesia and reduce the rate of imports of domestic dimethyl carbonate, create new jobs, and help reduce the unemployment rate in Indonesia and can become a export commodity Indonesia. The Dimethyl Carbonate Plant is planned to be built in Bontang, East Kalimantan with a production capacity of 10,000 tons/year with the main raw material being methanol through the carbonylation process. Oxidative . The main tool design in this factory is the Distillation Column (T-101) which functions to purify methanol, water and dimethyl carbonate. The height of this distillation column is 10.86 m with a diameter of 1.70 m operated at a pressure of 1 atm , feed temperature is 92.07oC, spire temperature is 67.73oC and tower base temperature is 95.26oC. Economic analysis in the design of this plant shows that this dimethyl carbonate plant is feasible to build. With the BEP value ( Break events Point ) obtained is 50%, the ROI value obtained is 52%.
