Pembuatan Komposit Dari Serat Sabut Kelapa (Cocos Nucifera L)
ABSTRACT
Composite is a material made from a combination of two or more materials to
produce a composite material that has different mechanical properties and
characteristics from its constituent materials. The purpose of this study was to
determine the feasibility of composites reinforced with coco fiber. In this study, the
researchers varied the arrangement of the fibers, namely the straight and random
arrangement of fibers and the amount of composition between the fibers and the
resin. The researcher also determined the impact toughness using the ASTM D 265
standard and the tensile strength using the ASTM D 638-03 standard of coco fiber
composites. The test results of the coconut coir fiber composite have an actual
density value of 1.19 gr/cm3 in the composition of 60% fiber and 40% resin and the
lowest porosity value of 0.58% in the randomly arranged fiber impact test
specimen. The best value of impact toughness was found in the composition of 50%
fiber and 50% resin of 271,311.29 J/m2 in straight stacked fiber specimens with
ductile mechanical properties, this value was much higher than the impact
toughness of SNI-1811-2007 helmet materials of 9,720 J /m2 and for the tensile
strength test the best value is found in the composition of 50% fiber and 50% resin
of 34.10 MPa in randomly arranged fiber specimens whose mechanical properties
are ductile, this value is slightly higher than the tensile strength of SNI-1811-2007
helmet materials which is 33.93 MPa. Based on these results, the composite
material reinforced with coconut coir fiber is feasible to be an alternative material
in the manufacture of SNI helmets when viewed from the value of impact toughness
and tensile strength.
