Prarancangan Pabrik Phthalic Anhydride Proses Von Heyden Dengan Desain Alat Utama Kolom Distilasi Phthalic Anhydride (D-201)
ABSTRACT
Phthalic anhydride or 1,3-Isobenzofurandione is an organic compound with the chemical formula C8H4O3 which can be obtained from the oxidation process of orthoxylene and air. Phthalic anhydride (C8H4O3) is a chemical compound in the form of white crystals with a musty odor. Phthalic anhydride is an intermediate substance that is widely used in the production of plastics and vinyl chloride. Phthalic anhydride is used as a raw material for making DOP (dioctyl phthalate) which is commonly used as a softener or plasticizer used in the PVC manufacturing process, and has great use in the manufacture of UPR (Unsaturated Polyester Resin). Phthalic anhydride is produced commercially by reacting o-xylene with oxygen in the gas phase using an oxidation process. The reactor used in the oxidation of o-xylene is a fixed bed multitubular type reactor which operates isothermally at a temperature of 360°C and a pressure of 5 atm. While the product purification stage which aims to separate phthalic anhydride from unreacted reactants with a purity level of 99% is by using a distillation column. The type of distillation column used is a sieve tray column. The operating conditions of the distillation tower are 210oC at the top and 284oC at the bottom with a pressure of 1.033 atm each. Factory economic analysis is carried out to determine the feasibility of the factory to be built. Based on the results of the plant's economic feasibility analysis, the methyl salicylate plant is feasible to build with a PBP of 1.14 years, an IRR of 22.75%, an ROI of 70.37% and a BEP of 59%.
