ABSTRACT
Low Density polyethylene (LDPE) is one type of synthetic plastic that is nonbidegradable
or cannot be degraded by microorganisms. Low Density polyethylene
(LDPE) is needed as a raw material for the manufacture of plastic food and beverage
packaging. The need for LDPE increases along with the increase in the capacity of food
and beverage wrapping plastic factories. National Low Density Polyethylene needs in the
last five years tend to increase, but some are still met from other countries such as Saudi
Arabia, the United States, Canada, Singapore, South Korea, Germany and Japan. In
Indonesia, the need for LDPE is 1.6 million tons / year while domestic production is 736
thousand tons / year. For this reason, the Low Density Polyethylene industry has good
prospects to be developed in Indonesia. Based on various reviews, this Low Density
Polyethylene plant will be located in Dumai industrial area. This article is a brief
description of the mechanical design of the Reactor LDPE (R-201) as the main equipment
that will determine the economic feasibility of this plant. The feasibility study shows that
this LDPE plant has a BEP of 35%; ROI of 32.1%; IRR of 22.74% and payback period of
2.33 years.
