Improve Old Soft Water To Fiberline #1 Zero Hardness
ABSTRACT
One of the departments under the auspices of Riau Prima Energi's business unit is the Power Side Water Treatment Plant division. Soft Water in Fiberline is used as dilution in bleaching process. The quality of Soft Water parameters (total hardness) must be maintained because the content of Ca and Mg will affect the next process. The regeneration process in Soft Water is carried out by ion exchange method. The saturated resin will be regenerated to be reactivated. In this final project, an analysis was carried out on vessels #A, #B, #C, and #D Old Soft Water which caused an increase in total hardness in water. Total hardness checking is done by taking samples from each vessel then adding buffers as much as 1 mL and adding 4 drops of EBT. Then stir and see the color change, if it changes blue it means total hardness 0 and if purple then titration is done with EDTA. After checking the total hardness on each vessel has increased total hardness above 0 ppm, and this condition lasts for several weeks so action needs to be taken to improve old soft water so that zero hardness in each vessel is by changing the resin on the #B and #C vessels, and changing the strainer on the #A and #D vessels. After checking the total hardness of each vessel has increased in total hardness above 0 ppm, and this condition lasts for several weeks so action needs to be taken to improve old soft water so that zero hardness in each vessel is by changing the resin in the #B and #C vessels, and changing the strainer in the #A and #D vessels. As for the increase in the highest total hardness value in each Vessel #A, #B, #C, and Old Soft Water #D are as follows 4.50 ppm, 7.40 ppm, 5.50 ppm, and 7.70 ppm respectively. After the action is carried out, it can be seen that there is a decrease in total hardness in each vessel in accordance with the quality target of the parameters to be achieved by 0 ppm and a maximum of 2 ppm. In the final project carried out, several factors can be known that cause total hardness is not achieved, namely resin fouling, incomplete regeneration, and leaking strainers.
