ABSTRACT
This research was conducted in Rawasari Village, Alam Barajo District, Jambi
Province with the aim of knowing: 1) what are the underlying factors occurrence
of a contested divorce, 2) how interaction before and after divorce, and 3) how
strategy/AGIL in contested divorce. This study used a qualitative research method
with a descriptive approach by taking 4 main subject and 2 additional informants
(key informants). In this case the determination of innformation using purposive
sampling technique by data collection carried out in this study were observation
techniques, interviews and documentation. The theory used in this study is social
interactions by Gillin and Gillin and AGIL structural functionalism by Talcott
Parsons. Result of analysis from research in the field can be concluded as
follows: First, some of the factors behind it contested divorce namely the factor of
discord, economic factor, affair factor, and domestic violence factor. Divorce can
occur due to lack of communication and lack of trust between husband and wife
or nondisclosure one anotherthus causing misunderstandings, one of them in
finance. Husband has a job with sufficient salary for his familly, but the husband
rarely gives money to wife without telling the wife. Besides that domestic violence
too reason divorce occurs especially contested divorce (divorce filed by the wife).
Second, strategy contested divorce in the wife’s economic condition, changes in
economic behavior, previously as a housewife and only receive income from the
husband and side jobs during before the divorce as long as are not divorced with
husband. However after the divorce, had to find a job and supplement their own
income. Third, wife after disvorce her communication was cut off withex husband
nor children with their fathers. Likewike the interaction with the ex husband nor
children with their fathers. Likewise the interaction with the ex husband’s family
like a foreigner. The results of the observations of this study are the strategies
carried out by the wife by earning her own income assisted by her parents to meet
the needs of herself and her child.
