ABSTRACT
Independent oil palm plantations are a source of income and an economic driver for rural communities. The success of oil palm farming is strongly influenced by good garden maintenance, one of which is fertilization activities. Fertilization is done to get maximum production is an activity that can be controlled by planters. However, the very high increase in fertilizer prices makes it difficult for planters to buy fertilizer, so the application of fertilizers by planters is below the recommended recommendations. The purpose of this study was to compare the amount of fertilizer use, production costs, productivity, and income of former PIR-Trans oil palm planters before and after the increase in fertilizer prices. This research was conducted in Pangkalan Kuras District, Pelalawan Regency with a sample of independent oil palm planters. Data were analyzed using paired sample t-test to see the comparison of the amount of fertilizer use, production costs, productivity and income of smallholders. The results showed that the amount of fertilizer use decreased to 1,438 kg/ha/year from the previous amount of fertilizer use of 2,017. Meanwhile, production costs, productivity and income of farmers increased in the period after the increase in fertilizer prices.
