This research was conducted to determine the beginning reading ability of children aged 5-6 years with Smart Box Calista learning media. Reading at the beginning of a child is a basic skill in recognizing letters, syllables and sentences in a simple form, provision for entering the next school level and Smart Box Calista is a Smart Box Calista media for reading, writing and telling stories. The type of research used is experimental research so that it can be seen the causes and variables using Media Smart Box Calista. The research design used was the one-group pretest-posttest design. The data collection method used is observation and documentation with t-test data analysis techniques. The results of this study indicate a pretest and posttest comparison test, a significant test of this difference with the t statistic obtained tcount = 36.929 with Sig. = 0.000.
