of Pekanbaru City which makes traffic users feel disturbed. Considering that
previously clowns could only be found at certain events and certain places, such
as birthday parties, product launches and so on, now this practice has shifted into
a "beggar" phenomenon. The phenomenon of street clowns which continues to
increase from day to day, especially in Pekanbaru City indicates that there are
social problems in Pekanbaru City, the shift in the role of clowns from art
workers to beggars deserves to be studied more deeply. Therefore, this study
focuses on the communication phenomenon of street clowns in Pekanbaru City
from the aspects of the motives, meanings and communication experiences of the

Pekanbaru city is due to economic needs, because begging income is less, because
they are invited to clown and because it is a hobby or pleasure. Meanwhile, future

hope. The self-meaning of street clowns in the city of Pekanbaru depends on the

clowns in the city of Pekanbaru is enthusiastic, confident, fun, shy and ignorant.
The communication experiences experienced by street clowns in the city of
Pekanbaru with their families, fellow street clowns and with the community
include two things, namely pleasant communication experiences and unpleasant
communication experiences. Enjoyable communication experiences such as
positive reception and full support from the family, no conflict and mutual respect
for fellow clowns, good acceptance from the community, feeling happy and
entertained. Whereas unpleasant communication experiences are not getting
support, the occurrence of conflicts and almost squabbling in the field, and being
given bad words, namely being said to be lazy and looked down upon by society.
