Abstract The development and progress that is being felt at this time can be seen that not a few all aspects have changed. Especially in a habit that is increasingly fading. There are many assumptions that ancient things today no longer make sense to the world. Even though the local community already exists or enjoys the sophistication and progress of the world, the habits of the former parents before the development and progress of the times are still being preserved by the community, namely the Semah Kampung Tradition in Pelanduk Village, Mandah District, Indragiri Hilir Regency. The local community is aware of and follows the times, however, for this village tradition, the local community cannot abandon and eliminate this tradition. Maintaining this tradition where every implementation and used there are symbols for each implementation because these symbols have meaning and purpose. The purpose of this research is that researchers want to know the implementation process of village semah traditions and also want to know the implementation system of village semah traditions. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. In addition, the technique of determining informants used a purposive sampling technique, in which of these techniques there were 7 informants. The criteria for informants are domicile in the area studied, and follow the implementation of the village semah tradition every year. The conclusion from the research studied by researchers is that the process of carrying out this village semah tradition takes place in the month of Muharram and is carried out once a year. In addition, there are three stages in the implementation of the village semah tradition, namely pre-implementation, implementation and post-implementation stages. In addition, there is an implementation system, namely goals, sentiments, norms, sanctions, infrastructure and status roles and participating participants. There are symbols used in the implementation of the village semah tradition which are based on requests or agreements from spirits with humans, namely the previous parents.
