THE PORTRAYAL OF LGBT IN KEHLANI’S SONG
CALLED HONEY

In 2015, same-sex marriage becomes legal in the United States of America. Many American musicians made music videos with the concept of LGBT. One of them is Kehlani who produce a song also a video clip called Honey in 2017. The mentioned promotional film, recounts the relationship of a lesbian couple, and has several romance scenes. The purpose of this research is to discover the denotation, connotation, and myth of Kehlani’s music video titled Honey.
The researcher used the qualitative method and analyzed with Roland Barthes’ semiotics theory. The Honey music video of Kehlani lasts 3 minutes 19 seconds, overall having 18 scenes as research subjects. Thereafter, the researcher selected each scene containing Lesbian concept. Data analysis techniques by appreciating the object of research as the first step to understand the video clip, dissected the object of research, and combined it with supporting data.
Based on the result, in the mentioned music video, the researcher found symbols that can be analyzed with semiotics in how lesbian romantically treats their partner. Furthermore, in this process, denotation meaning occurred where there were differences between Butchy and Andro Lesbians. Moreover, connotation meaning happened by the way the lesbian couples treat each other. For the myth; men prefer blonde women because they are more attractive, men worry about what they wear because of homophobic things, blue means masculinity, men will initiate to reach out for the women if they smile first, a kiss increases life expectancy, holding hands intensify the comfort in the relationship, and being LGBT tend to be a smoker
