ABSTRACT
The Javanese transmigrant community in Riau, especially in Sungai Keranji Village, Singingi District, has formed a community that houses the Javanese tradition, namely the Kuda Lumping. The preservation of the Kuda Lumping in Sungai Keranji Village is a form of cultural awareness for the Javanese people. Apart from being a forum for public entertainment, Kuda Lumping is also a means of curing homesickness. As a result, the Kuda Lumping tradition has survived to the present day.The PRpose of this research is to determine the existence of the Kuda Lumping in the Sungai Keranji Village community.This type of research is descriptive and qualitative, and it specifies a number of 7 informants who are active Kuda Lumping players. According to the findings of the study, the Lumping Horse, also known as Makarti Budoyo Lestari, is a trademark of Sungai Keranji Village. The name Makarti is derived from the village's traditional name. The Kuda Lumping art is presented in four stages: the pre-show preparation stage, the performance stage, and the post-performance stage. Kuda Lumping is one of the most popular arts in Sungai Keranji Village, frequently filling large occasions such as wedding parties and village birthdays. The existence of a trance show is the peculiarity that the community is interested in. Trance can be felt by both dancers and audience members. This performance is guarded by a shaman/handler in charge of defeating supernatural forces. Although the flow of modern music has influenced many of the interests of Javanese youth, Kuda Lumping has become one of the people's entertainments that is still in existence today.
