Riau
(the chase of Asmun Jaafar and Saleh Djasit News at Harian Pagi Riau Pos)

The corruption case that have been done by the functionary and eks
functionary of Riau Province has be the most up to date news on the December 2007
and March 2008. They were Pelalawan district head HT Azmun Jaafar suspected
disfunctionality his competence by giving IPK (logging licence) and gratification that
country lossed Rp 1300 billion. While H. Saleh Djasit SH in case procurement of 20
fire engines that country lossed Rp 4,7 billion. Riau Pos as a local newspaper in a
strategic position to spread this information, the reports will give big effect to Riau
society vision on this both Riau figure. According to that issue, this research in
intention to knows how the report construction of coruption case Azmun Jaafar and
saleh djasit, and also how the journalist representation in reporting this both Riau
figure.
This research is a discourse analysis using qualitative analysis methode, and
using critical discourse approach by Teun A van Dijk, also known as social
cognition. The data was collected using library research, documentation research,
interview, and observation. The subject of this research is journalists whom reporting
the case.
The research result that Riau Pos news construction about this both figure is
extremely different. From the news text we can observe different treatment to this
both figure. The journalist giving excessive protection to Azmun Jaafar with focusing
the report on positive thing about him. While Saleh report is focusing on the case
detaily. Base on the report seem saleh is truly to be guilty. Although there is no
decision from the court yet.
Social cognition of Riau Pos journalist as his mental representation expressed
in text structure that showed. Journalist representation influenced by doctrin that
Riau Pos given, that the journalis as much as giving protection for the Riau
functionary. According to that Riau Pos in reporting the case is not shoutout as it
was. In this case Riau Pos take a part as elucidation newspaper from the report on
other newspaper in Riau Pos media group, local newspaper or national newspaper.
