SELF PRESENTATION CELEBGRAM PEKANBARU VIA INSTAGRAM SOCIAL MEDIA

The problem raised in this study is to analyze the phenomenon of self- presentation carried out by celebrities in Pekanbaru through Instagram social media. The main problem in this research is how to present themselves on Instagram social media. This study aims to determine how the activity of selebgram in the front stage and how the activity selebgram in the back stage.
The method is a qualitative research with a phenomenological approach. Data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation. The theory used in this study is the theory of Dramaturgy by Erving Goffman. In making self-presentations it is necessary to have a stage as a place that can be divided into two, namely the front stage and the back stage. The front stage serves as a place to show pre-planned appearances and characters. While the back stage is referred to as their place to prepare everything related to the ongoing presentation of a self before it is finally shown.
The research results obtained on the front stage of Instagram social media, the celebrities present the best version of themselves by showing good appearance and character. On the other hand, when on the backstage, in their daily lives, they edit photos or videos so they can show a good appearance and return to their original character. Self-presentation on Instagram social media has the goal they want, namely what they want to get after presenting themselves is to get the attention of their followers, want to be recognized for their existence on Instagram social media, and want to make mementos that can be stored in the story archive on Instagram and want to get engagement. In contrast to the back stage appearance that the celebrity got, they did not think about the target market.
