ABSTRACT

Kuantan Singingi Regency is a district that has a strategic agricultural sector especially rubber plantations. Based on data on the amount of rubber production it can be seen that Gunung Toar District is one of the districts that has a very good amount of production. The purpose of this study is (1) To know the characteristics of rubber farmers in Petapahan Village Gunung Toar District Kuantan Singingi Regency, (2) Identify smartphone use in rubber farmers in Petapahan Village Gunung Toar District Kuantan Singingi Regency, (3) To know changes in production and income before and after using smartphone. The methods used in this study are survey methods and qualitative approaches. The population in this study is all rubber farmers in Petapahan Village totaling 120 farmers with a sample of 30 farmers. The sampling method uses purposive sampling and the data analysis used is descriptive analysis to answer the research objectives. The results showed that the internal and external characteristics of farmers were in the good category with the level of smartphone use also good. The use of smartphones is used as a source of information and education. The use of smartphones also encourages increased production and farmer income which can improve the welfare of farmers.
