The role of extension workers can influence farmer empowerment. Through agricultural extension workers, farmers are able to carry out the Agribusiness sub-system. The aims of this research are; (1) Identifying the characteristics of independent palm oil farmers in Sencalang Village, Keritang district; (2) Examining the role of extension workers on independent palm oil farmers in Sencalang Village, Keritang district; (3) Examining the level of agency of independent farmers in independent palm oil farming activities in Sencalang Village, Keritang district; (4) Analyzing the relationship between the role of extension to the agency of independent palm oil farmers in Sencalang Village, Keritang district. This research was conducted in the Sencalang Village, Keritang District, Indragiri Hilir Regency. The research sampling method used purposive sampling technique with consideration of the criteria as a member of the farmer group who participated in agricultural extension of 62 respondents. The validity and reliability of the research instruments, multiple linear regression test, F-test, and T-test were analyzed to determine the results of the research. The results of the research were relationship between the role of extension workers as education and consultation on the agency (human resources, productive economy, and institutions) (p0.05). Based on the research results, it can be concluded that the role of extension workers is less important and farmers are quite empowered.
