The phenomenon of parental divorce causes trauma to children, especially in interpersonal communication problems in the friendship environment. Parental divorce is a difficult and emotional experience for all involved, including students as children. One of the traumas caused by a bad past is the inner child. Inner child is the side of a person's personality that results from childhood experiences that have an impact on present life or the childish side of a person. What needs as a child were not met as a child, so that it becomes a problem as an adult. This study aims to determine the awareness of inner child in interpersonal communication among students in Pekanbaru City who have experienced parental divorce.
This research uses qualitative research methods with a phenomenological approach. The subjects in the study were students in Pekanbaru City who were victims of parental divorce who had direct involvement with inner child awareness totaling eight people who were determined based on purposive sampling technique. Data collection was done through interviews, observation and documentation. Data analysis techniques by collecting data, reducing data, presenting and drawing conclusions. Data validity checking technique is done by triangulation.
The results of this study indicate that the forms of attention of students who experience inner child awareness of parental divorce in interpersonal communication events include paying attention, showing interest, gestures, and focus. Forms of perception from students who experience inner child awareness of parental divorce in interpersonal communication events include sources of conflict, neglect, difficulty believing, and sources of support. And the responsive forms of students who experience inner child awareness of parental divorce in interpersonal communication include giving appropriate responses, empathy, openness, ignoring, not caring, and not being open
