Pengembangan LKPD Materi Himpunan Berbasis Discovery Learning Untuk Memfasilitasi Kemampuan Pemahaman Matematis Siswa SMP
This research is motivated by the importance of mathematical understanding skills for students. Mathematical understanding is a fundamental skill that students should possess; however, in reality, students' mathematical understanding skills are still relatively low. This is evident from several previous studies, interviews conducted by researchers with mathematics teachers in various schools, and the results of tests on mathematical understanding abilities. In relation to the low mathematical understanding abilities, there is a need for improvement in the mathematics learning process. This improvement can be achieved by providing students with opportunities to build, search, think, and develop their own knowledge, as well as actively participate in the learning process. Based on these issues, this research aims to facilitate mathematical understanding abilities by developing student worksheets that apply a valid and practical discovery learning model in accordance with the specific material used, which is sets.
This research was of the development or research and development type. The development model used was the 4-D model, consisting of four stages: define, design, develop and disseminate. In the define stage, activities included initial and final analysis, student analysis, concept analysis, and learning objective analysis. In the initial-final analysis stage, information was obtained that the student worksheets used by teachers in schools did not meet the demands of the 2013 curriculum. In the student analysis stage, observations and interviews were conducted with students regarding their learning issues and their mathematical understanding abilities. The analysis of the material was based on the 2013 curriculum, with one of the topics studied by seventh-grade students being sets. The material analysis results were utilized to determine the tasks students would undertake during the learning process. Learning objectives were established based on the material analysis results and assigned tasks.
In the design stage, the researcher designed student worksheets by creating an initial five-session format. In the development stage, the researcher developed the student worksheets according to the initial format that had been prepared, and three validators then validated it. Subsequently, a small-scale trial was conducted to assess the practicality of the student worksheets. The research instruments used in this study included validation instruments in the form of validation sheets for the student worksheets and practicality instruments in the form of student response questionnaires. The data collection techniques used in this research included interviews, observations, questionnaires, and documentation. The collected data were then analyzed. The researcher conducted both qualitative and quantitative data analysis. In qualitative data analysis, the researcher examined and described the suggestions and comments from validators and students. In quantitative data analysis, the researcher calculated the validation results and questionnaire responses to assess the validity and practicality levels of the Student Worksheets created by the researcher.
The results of the validation analysis of the student worksheets show a highly valid category with a score of 88.57%, indicating that the developed student worksheets can be tested and revised based on the validator's suggestions. Subsequently, the researcher conducted a trial of the revised student worksheets with a small group consisting of 9 students with heterogeneous abilities to assess the practicality of the developed student worksheets. The analysis of the practicality data from the small-group trial, based on the student response questionnaire, indicates a highly practical category with a score of 84.19%. This means that the developed student worksheets can be used in mathematics learning and can be revised based on student feedback.
Based on the research results, it can be concluded that the development of student worksheets using the discovery learning model on the set material to facilitate mathematical understanding abilities has met the aspects of validity and practicality for use in the learning process.
