This research aims to improve the mathematical problem solving abilities (KPMM) of class VIII.1 students at Babussalam Middle School Pekanbaru odd semester of the 2023/2024 academic year by applying the problem based learning (PBL) model to straight line equation material. This research is Classroom Action Research (PTK) which will be carried out in two cycles with the stages in each cycle consisting of planning, implementing actions, observing and reflecting. The research subjects were 23 students in class VIII.1 of Babussalam Middle School, Pekanbaru. The data collection method is through teacher and student activity observation sheets as well as student KPMM tests (pretest and posttest). Data was analyzed based on student observation sheets and KPMM tests using the N-Gain value. The research results show that the application of the PBL model can increase students' KPMM. KPPM is said to increase if the N-Gain value obtained is > 0.3. The N-Gain values in cycles 1 and 2 are 0.64 and 0.69 with a moderate increase category. Thus, the application of the PBL model can improve the learning process and increase the KPMM of class VIII.1 students at Babussalam Middle School Pekanbaru.
