Durian seed starch proves valuable as a filler in composites and biodegradable plastics, with studies exploring its effects on mechanical properties and biodegradation. The research findings indicate that durian seed starch has the potential as an alternative plastic material, owing to its sufficiently high starch content. Cellulose a natural polymer with high strength and elasticity, contributes to diverse applications, including paper production and bioplastics. Cellulose can be obtained from various agricultural wastes like rice straw. The study focuses on creating an optimal biodegradable plastic using durian seed starch and rice straw cellulose. Experimentation, employing a randomized design with five treatments and three replicates, resulting in a total of 15 experimental units. The treatments varied in the ratio of durian seed starch to rice straw cellulose, ranging from 1:0.3, 1:0.4, 1:0.5, 1:0.6 and 1:0.7. The data was analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and the Duncan New Multiple Range Test (DNMRT). Reveals P5 (starch to cellulose ratio of 1:0.7) as the most successful, including water absorption value of 62.15%, water vapor transfer rate of 40.37 g/h/m2, a tensile strength of 28.60 MPa, elongation of 3.97%, and biodegradation time of 12 days.
