Pematahan Dormansi Benih Aren (Arenga pinnata Merr.) dengan Berbagai Lama Waktu Perendaman dalam Air Kelapa
Cultivation and development of sugar palm is supported by the availability of quality seeds that can be provided in a short time. Problem in the provision of sugar palm seeds is that they have a long dormancy period. Breaking the dormancy of sugar palm seeds needs to be done so that the seeds germinate faster. An effort that can be made to break the dormancy of sugar palm seeds is by soaking the seeds in coconut water. This study aims to obtain the most effective and efficient soaking time of sugar palm seeds in coconut water to break the dormancy of sugar palm seeds. This research was conducted at the Plant Breeding Laboratory and Greenhouse, Faculty of Agriculture, Riau University. This research was conducted from August 2023 to January 2024. The research was a Completely Randomised Design (CRD) experiment with the treatment of soaking time of palm seeds in coconut water, which consisted of 5 treatments, namely: A = water for 24 hours, B = coconut water for 12 hours, C = coconut water for 24 hours, D = coconut water for 36 hours, E = coconut water for 48 hours. Each treatment was repeated four times, each experimental unit consisted of 25 seeds. The results showed that soaking palm seeds in coconut water for 24 hours was able to break the dormancy of palm seeds. Coconut water can accelerate apocol emergence, plumula emergence, increase germination, vigour index, seedling height and seedling dry weight, but does not increase root length.
